Final Preparations
I have finished painting my piece and it is in the kiln and when it is done i need to paint the tips of the flames red. I also need to make some fill in pieces just to add to the height factor.
Inspiorations

I had many inspirations to think of my totem ideas, we have done alot of theory work on how we will create our totem pieces in our mind. Marcel Duchamps piece "Urinal" was a huge inspiration for thinking outside the box and making a piece that really stands out and is nothing near ordinary. Jenny Orchard was another inspiration like this and is an amazing ceramics artist's and represents what i beleive mine talks about.
Painting!!! Yay
I have been moving along quite quickly and my groups individual pieces are looking great. We are painting our individual totems my totem has a royal blue bottom for the sea, a red at the tips of the flame and orange in between. I believe it is a good colour scheme because it represents the colours that have something to do with my totem piece all together. I think it will turn out great and the next step is to fire it.
Another Assignment

Late last term we got our new ceramics assignment. We were to be put into groups of about four or five. We were to make a totem pole representing the issues in the area of Cronulla that will be displayed in Cronulla Park. It was our second visual art of the year and we were very excited to get started with paper clay.

How did i think of it?

The many ideas we got to make up our sketches of our totems came from ceramics artist's before us. Artist's like Jenny Orchard and Marcel Duchamp's inspirational artworks had gave us ideas to break the boundaries and think outside the box.

Getting Started
We are lucky enough to have a great teacher to give us some great tips to get started with our works. Then came the hard part actually doing the work. I started off with a technique that is called the pinch technique that makes a hollow semicircle. Then I put a lid on it to make a semi-sphere after that i started making my flames there long windy pieces that have much detail.
I believe my piece is coming along nicely yet not standing out as much as i would have hoped. i cant wait till we get further on so i can see how it looks. Hopefully it will look great and get a huge response.

Nearly Done
If your wondering my assignment is coming along great and my piece is looking great, once i got the bottom half of my earth done, I added the flames that are going all over the house and it looks really great. All i have to do left for the flames is add some miniature flames to create a bigger fire! Then glaze, fire and paint and then I'm done pretty much!!
